MURALEE THUMMARUKUDY

Muralee Thummarukudy, a Malayali. He is the head of the Disaster Mitigation Division at the United Nations Environment Programme. His hometown is Vengola near Perumbavoor. He holds a degree in civil engineering from Kothamangalam M. A. College and a doctorate from IIT Kanpur. He has worked in war and disaster areas in more than fifty countries around the world. He writes regularly in Malayalam on disaster mitigation. His works include Chila Naattukaryangal, Veendum Chila Naattukaryangal, Perumazha Paraknapaadangal, Budhanum Sankaranum Pine Njanum, Athirukalilatha Lokam, Keralathe Nadukkiya Dhuranthangalum Nirvana Margangalum Corona Kalathe Veedu, Sex 21- Sammatham , Samyogam , Santhosham (Neeraja Janaki) and Videshapadanam: Avasarangalum Nirdeshangalum (Neeraja Janaki).

RESHMA C

Reshma C. was born in 1994 in Perumbadav, Kannur district. Graduated in Civil Engineering from the Government Engineering College, Kannur. Postgraduate in Water Resources Engineering from Government Engineering College, Thrissur. Currently a research student at NIT, Kozhikode.

VR SUDHEESH

V.R. Sudheesh was born in Vadakara. Educated at Madappally Govt. College, Thalassery, Brennan College and Madras University. He published his first story in 1975. Editor of the books Malayalathinte Pranaya Kathakal, Malayalathinte Pranaya Kavithakal and M.T. More than thirty of his works have been published. He was a teacher at Chelannoor Sree Narayana College. His works include Maya, Puli, Ottakadhapadangal, Thiranjedutha Kathakal, Priyapetta Kathakal, Pranayapadangal, Ente Pranaya Kathakal, Mittayitheruvu and Anubhavam Orma Yathra.

UMARUL FAROOQ

Umarul Farooq was born in Koduvalli, Kozhikode district, to Abdurahiman Kutty and Ayesha. His spouse is Shabeena, and their children are Fardin and Farshan. He completed his MBBS degree and PG in Radiation Oncology from Kozhikode Medical College. He works in the Insurance Medical Service Department. Currently, he is the Insurance Medical Officer at Kozhikode Farooq ESI Hospital. He is also in charge of the Chemotherapy Unit. His works include Newa Hospital.

NS MADHAVAN

N. S. Madhavan was born in Ernakulam. He received his IAS in 1975 and was a civil service officer. He is a prominent Malayalam writer and former civil servant, known for his sharp social and political commentary. A distinguished short story writer and novelist. Madhavan is credited with making a significant contribution to bringing short story literature back into the mainstream.

He is best known for his novel ‘Lanthanbatheriyile Luthiniyakal’ and several celebrated short stories, including ‘Higuita’, ‘Thiruthu’, ‘Chulaimedile Shavangal’, Panchakanyakakal, Bheemachan and ‘Vanmarangal Veezhumpol’. In addition to fiction, Madhavan writes columns on football and travel.

In 1970, his story ‘Shishu‘ won the first prize in the short story competition organised by Mathrubhumi for college students. He is a distinguished fellow of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi and has won numerous prestigious awards, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi and Odakkuzhal award for his work Higuita, the Mulberry, Padmarajan and V.P. Sivakumar Memorial ‘Keli’ for best single stories, Muttathu Varkey Award, Mathrubhumi Literary Award, Crossword Book Award, and the Kerala State Students Federation Sahithyolsav Award. He was also selected three times for the ‘Katha’ Prize in Delhi.

PRIYA A.S

Priya A. S. was born in Eramallur, Cherthala. Assistant Section Officer at Cochin University of Science and Technology. Her debut work is a collection of short stories titled Ororo Thirivukal. She is the recipient of many awards. Manjamaramangal Chuttilum won the Lalithambika Antharjanam Award for Young Writer and the Jagarooka Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. Chitrashalabhangalude Veedu (Sri Padmanabhaswamy Endowment), Ammenkunjunneem Kunjunneemammem (Siddharth Balasahithya Puraskaram) Perumazhayathe Kunjithalukal (Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Children’s Literature, 2020). She has translated Arundhati Roy’s famous work The God of Small Things into Malayalam, titled as Kunjukaryangalude Odethampuran (Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation). And has translated Jayashree Mishra’s Ancient Promises Janmantharavagdanangal (V. K. Unnikrishnan Memorial Award). Her other works include Violet Poochakalku Shoo Vekkan Thonnumbol, Priya A.Sinte Kathakal, Pookathirikan Ennik Avathille, Ammenkunjunnim Mookurummi Mookurummi, Kathakathapinekili, Ente Neelapoovinu Enthupatti? Tha Enna Aniyathikutty, A Daivathinoru Kathu Appu Kalikoodu Veedu, Sundaram Veettile Visheshangal, Phanras Minra, Thanmayam, Ente Kothankallukal.

P V SHAJIKUMAR

P.V. Shajikumar was born on May 21, 1983, in Madikai, Kasaragod district, to the late Kallingeel Kunjikannan and Thankamani. He studied at Govt. L.P. School, Keekangkot, G. H. S. Madikai, Nehru College, Kanhangad, and Kasaragod L.B.S. Engineering College. He has written the screenplays for the films Kanyaka Talkies and Take Off and the dialogues for the film Puthan Panam. His works include Janam, Maranavamsam, Itha Innumuthal Itha Innalevare, and Vellaripaadam. He has also won the New York Film Festival Award for Best Screenplay and the Shanghai Film Festival Award. He was awarded the Kendra Sahitya Akademi-Yuva Puraskar, the Kerala Government Award for Best Screenplay in 2017.

RESUL POOKKUTTY

Resul Pookutty is a master sound designer, sound editor and mixer. The first Asian to win an Academy Award in a technical category for Slumdog Millionaire, Resul has carved a niche for himself in a little over a decade. Beginning his career with the 1997 film Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One, directed by Rajat Kapoor, he went on to do outstanding work in Bollywood films like Black, Musafir, Zinda, Traffic Signal, Gandhi, My Father, Saawariya, Dus Kahaniyaan, Ghajini, Blue, Ra.One and other language films like Endhiran (Robot), Nanban 3 and Pahazssi Raja, etc. His recent work in Hollywood includes John Madden’s The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. His works include Ente Kathoppukal Shabdatharapatham.

Resul was awarded the Padma Shri for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema in 2009. In the same year, he also received an honorary DLitt from Kalady Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit.

ROSHNI SWAPNA

Roshni Swapna is a poet, novelist, translator, painter, and musician. She has a Doctorate in Drama from Calicut University. Director of the School of Literature Studies at the University of Thunjathezhuthachan, Malayalam University. Her poems have been translated into various languages. Her works include Kadalmeenintte Purathukayari Kuthikunna Penkutti, Kadalil Mulacha Marangal, and Buddhanumayulla Athmasambhashanam. She has received many awards, including the Kerala Kalamandalam’s Vallathol Puraskar and Ankanam Kavitha Puraskar. Her novel Arupikalude Nagaram has been considered for the O.V. Vijayan Memorial DC Books Novel Award. She has directed two short films, Dooram and Nisabdham, and a documentary, Akkitham – Irupatham Noottandinte Moonaksharam.

SABAH

Sabah hails from Navaikulam Kizhakanela in Thiruvananthapuram district. He has a postgraduate degree in English literature. He has worked as an assistant director in many Malayalam films. He has won the 2010 State Government Award for Best Television Director for the short film ‘Tik… Tik…’. He authored the work Poika and Janaki. His first book, ‘Janaki‘ received the 2022 Kerala Kalidasa Kerala Varma Award. He is currently working as a Section Officer in the Kerala Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
