Mother Mary Comes To Me Global Launch: An Evening That blazed With the Luminance of Arundhati Roy

Mother Mary Comes To Me Global Launch

Everything matters when it comes to Arundhati Roy; the vocabulary she chooses when speaking about an incident or a moment, the way she articulates it, the charismatic intonation she carries; everything falls into place when Arundhati Roy has something to say. The heart of Kochi listened to the revolutionary author Arundhati Roy on 2 September 2025, Tuesday at Mother Mary Hall, St. Teresa’s College, Kochi. The global launch of ‘Mother Mary Comes To Me‘ was a much-anticipated event by literature lovers all over the world The outpouring of admiration and awe she garners from the readers all over the world is immeasurable and that was reflected at the global launch of Roy’s latest memoir, ‘Mother Mary Comes To Me.’ The first of a series of global launches of the memoir in Kerala was a magical and unexplainable event, as the audience’s extreme reverence for the legendary author and activist graced the occasion.

The programme started with the welcome address given by Asst. Prof. Jisha John. She read some lines from ‘The God of Small Things’ and explained how her words fuel courage in young women. She emphasized that the purpose of literature is to disturb, not to comfort. Adding to the glory of the launch, K. R. Meera, acclaimed author in Malayalam literature, didn’t hesitate to unfold her love and fondness for how Arundhati Roy trembles power structures with her powerful words and courage. According to K. R. Meera, Mother Mary Comes To Me is not just a collection of memories, but a ‘labyrinthian memoir’ as it explores areas like Arundhati Roy’s bond with her mother, Mary Roy, and the author’s relationship with herself. ‘The magnificent and unbelievable memoir will make the readers feel like they’ve hugged a porcupine,’–Meera said. Roy is always unpredictable just like her words are.

Arundhati Roy read the first chapter, ‘Gangster’ from the memoir and her brother Lalith Roy sang ‘Let it be’, adding extra vigour to the event. Later the conversation with Manasi Subramaniam, Editor-in-Chief, Penguin Random House India, Arundhati Roy explained various facets of writing the memoir, ‘Mother Mary Comes To Me.’ This memoir is staggeringly beautiful and holds great wit and unspeakable grief in every page. Every word in the book is political and it will outlast the author herself. Manasi Subramaniam(Editor-in-Chief, Penguin Random House India), Jisha John (Asst. Professor, Dept. of English, St. Teresa’s College), Ravi DC (CEO, DC Books), Rinjini Mithra (Marketing Manager, Penguin Random House India) addressed the gathering. Later readers had the opportunity to ask questions to the prolific author and get signed copies.
