Arundhati Roy’s memoir ‘Mother Mary Comes To Me’ launches in Kochi
Kochi to host Arundhati Roy’s first work of memoir, ‘Mother Mary Comes To Me’ in September. DC Books and Penguin Random House will launch ‘Mother Mary Comes To Me’, a compelling memoir of Arundhati Roy, in Kochi on 02 September 2025. This book portrays the complex relationship between Arundhati Roy and her fierce and extraordinary mother, Mary Roy and also comprises Roy’s emotionally raw and intimate account of how she has navigated life from childhood to adulthood facing numerous difficult situations. It traces her life in Kerala and Delhi and focuses on how Roy became the person and writer she is today.
‘Mother Mary Comes To Me’ is borne out of her mother’s death who has been the ‘shelter and storm.’According to Arundhati Roy, “Perhaps a mother like mine deserved a writer like me as a daughter. Equally, perhaps a writer like me deserved a mother like her. Even more than a daughter mourning the passing of her mother, I mourn her as a writer who has lost her most enthralling subject.” A writer who has written deeply moving books like ‘The God of Small Things’ and ‘The Ministry of Utmost Happiness’, her memoir is an astonishing account of her defiant life.’The memoir, which has already drawn attention globally, is going to be another milestone in the writer’s literary journey.
