Partition: An Oral History
“Indians have a tendency to claim ownership of the partition, and that needs to change,” said Anchal Malhotra, renowned author of partition stories, while discussing her work “The Book of Everlasting Things” with Dr Meena T Pillai. The stories of partition are not heard widely because the victims did not feel the need to share the stories with others since they also went through the same things. “Every event in history should be viewed from the perspective of people,” added Malhotra while answering questions from the audience. “Violence, massacre, rape, etc. belong to only one part of partition,” the author further added while explaining the characters of the story and what they reflected about the effects of partition.
